Research Nervousness
I am not worried about the research aspect of this project. I am very familiar with research. From genetic diseases to dolphins, there is probably a chance I’ve done a deep dive on Google. In fact, the thing I am most proud of in my entire life is a research project I did while interning at ESCAPE Bio, in San Francisco. I had to synthesize information on a rare disease called Infantile Neuro-Axonal Dystrophy (abbreviated INAD). INAD is such a sad disease, because children with it often progress normally only to regress after a certain undetermined amount of time. This was the most challenging thing I had ever done. I had to teach myself concepts that I had never heard of before in order to decide what was important and what was not. This is where PubMed became my best friend. I spent hours everyday looking at the same disease over and over, which got a little monotonous after a while. However, the end result is my finest accomplishment. If anyone wants to check it out, I’ll leave a link to a copy of it here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/12HQOtQBsgwnqoZyyZ0W8iFnSwdGznZ5fwX8qljOZ4FM/edit?usp=sharing
I originally was a little worried that the research I did would not correlate into skills for a humanities project, but Kelci told me not to worry. So I won’t! I am moderately concerned about reaching the 10 minute mark for my podcast however; I talk fast and synthesize, so sometimes it is hard to meet minimums for me.
Wow that research paper is extremely detailed! It's good that you're proud of your work because that looks like it took a lot of time. I too think that Kelci's presentation helped to prepare me for the research process.
ReplyDeleteYour experience with research is truly brilliant and it is amazing that you were able to complete such detailed and advanced research! Your dedication to the research definitely paid off and it is something you should be proud of. Like you, I was also a bit worried, but Kelci coming into class definitely helped me feel more prepared for our research excursion.
ReplyDeleteThe research paper is certainly impressive, and I believe that those skills will translate very well into a humanities project. At the very least, the foundation and precedent for good research habits are there, and you have a variety of individuals to aid you should the need present itself.
ReplyDeleteThat research paper sounds really impressive! I think your skills will translate well to this class.
ReplyDeleteThat's really awesome you're interested in genetics. I would definitely trust you to find out everything possible about a genetic question if I asked one. If I have any questions and can't ask Kelci, I'll go to you for sure!
ReplyDeleteThank you for providing the google docs, Jojo! I really liked seeing the research you have done before, which makes me extremely excited to see what you will come up with for this project. I am glad to hear that your meeting with Kelci went well. I am looking forward to meeting with her and getting some feedback on the research I have done so far.
